The State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager will be responsible for all strategy and compliance related to premium and state income taxes with assistance from other members of the team. The Manager will be charged with developing a state tax withholding Tax Coordinator role to ensure best practices company-wide in this area. The SALT Manager will oversee/manage state tax issues facing OneAmerica Financial, follow emerging trends, and participate in industry trade groups such as the ACLI.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file 3 insurance companies’ premium tax returns; make all related estimated tax and other payments.
  • Lead the state income tax compliance function with assistance from other members of the Tax team.
  • Prepare Exhibit 3 for the insurance companies.
  • Prepare and file personal property tax returns.
  • Monitor and follow trends regarding all state taxes the Tax department is responsible for to assist in the development of the OneAmerica Financial over all state tax strategy.
  • Develop the role of a State Reporting and Withholding Tax Coordinator to ensure best practices and consistency by the respective internal stakeholders who are responsible for administering the laws and procedures in their areas.
  • Remain engaged with industry trade groups such as the ACLI to ensure the company is current with trends and emerging issues and contribute time to assist these organizations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • 7-10 years of experience in the state and local tax area required.
  • Premium tax experience preferred.
  • Strong communication (written and oral), critical thinking, and attention to detail skills.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making
  • Excellent problem solver and collaboration skills
  • Or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background

Salary Band: 6B

This selected candidate will be expected to work hybrid in Indianapolis, IN. The candidate will also be expected to physically return to the office in CA, IN or ME as business needs dictate or for team-building and collaboration.
